Simple, safe, and chimney-free
An electric furnace heats air by passing it over heating elements, then a blower distributes it through your ducts. There is no flame, no heat exchanger to crack, no combustion gases to vent, and no carbon monoxide risk at all.
It is also the central heating appliance with the fewest parts that can fail.
Its real role today
Let us be straight about this: in 2026, an electric furnace is rarely the right choice as your only source of heat. At 100% efficiency it is still beaten by a heat pump that delivers two to three times more from the same electricity.
Its main role today is as backup heat within a central heat pump system. The heat pump does the work for most of the season; the electric furnace steps in during cold snaps, when the heat pump’s capacity falls off.

Check the panel first
Electric heating draws amperage. Many homes built before the 1980s have a 100 A service that no longer stretches once you add heating, a water heater and an EV charger.
Our licensed electrician handles that assessment as part of the project and upgrades the service where necessary — rather than letting you discover the problem on installation day.

Frequently asked questions
Is an electric furnace really 100% efficient?
Yes, strictly speaking — every kilowatt-hour in becomes a kilowatt-hour of heat. But do not confuse efficiency with cost. A heat pump delivers two to three times more heat from the same electricity, because it moves heat rather than making it. "100% efficient" is not the best available performance; it is the floor.
So why install one?
Because it is the natural partner to a heat pump. On the coldest days, when the heat pump can no longer carry the load alone, the electric furnace takes over. It also serves as the primary system in homes with no natural gas, where installation cost leads the decision.
Is my electrical panel big enough?
That is the first thing to check, and it is often what decides the project. Fully electric heating draws serious capacity. Our licensed electrician assesses the panel and, where needed, upgrades the service as part of the same project.
Is it noisy?
There is no burner and no ignition — the only sound is the blower. It is the quietest form of central heating there is.
