Natural gas furnace
Powerful, immediate heat, even at −30 °C. Current models reach 99% efficiency and modulate their output instead of running all-or-nothing.
Heat, right now
A natural gas furnace burns fuel to heat an exchanger, and the blower pushes that warm air into your ducts. It is direct, fast and powerful: at −30 °C, a gas furnace does not falter.
That is its genuine advantage, and in Quebec it counts.
What has changed since your last furnace
If you are replacing something installed in the 1990s or 2000s, three things are different:
Efficiency. Today’s condensing models run from 93% to 99% AFUE. The units they replace were often between 65% and 80%.
Modulation. A modern furnace is no longer a switch. Two-stage models spend most of the winter on low fire, and a modulating model adjusts its flame continuously. The result is smaller temperature swings, less start-up noise, and a blower that keeps air moving steadily instead of blasting in bursts.
Venting. A condensing furnace no longer vents up the chimney but through a PVC pipe out the wall, and it produces condensate that has to drain. That affects where the unit can go, and it is part of what we check on site.

We also pair gas furnaces with an electric heat pump in a dual-energy system, where the heat pump carries most of the season and the furnace takes over in deep cold. If you are replacing a furnace anyway, it is worth pricing both.

Frequently asked questions
What does AFUE mean?
AFUE is the percentage of the gas you burn that actually becomes heat in your house. A 96% furnace turns 96 cents of every gas dollar into heat and loses the other four up the flue. A furnace from the 1980s often sits between 65% and 78% — the replacement alone changes the bill.
Single-stage, two-stage or modulating — what is the difference?
A single-stage burner is either full-on or off. Two-stage adds a reduced setting, which it uses most of the time. A modulating burner adjusts continuously. The finer the modulation, the steadier the temperature from room to room and the less noise you hear at start-up.
Should I switch to electric instead?
It is a fair question, and the answer depends on your home. Converting to a central heat pump unlocks substantial rebates and takes you off the gas bill, but it assumes an electrical panel that can support it. If your gas furnace is under ten years old and running well, replacing it now rarely makes sense. We price both scenarios during the evaluation.
Do I need a carbon monoxide detector?
Yes, and it is not negotiable. Any combustion appliance needs a working CO detector on every occupied floor. Our technicians verify combustion and venting at every maintenance visit.
